The light thud of boots running along a dirt beaten path, and a soft gasp of breath. She knew that they would be waiting just a little father up the trail- perhaps just beyond the next bend. There's a slight tremble in her fingers as she reaches down to pull the pistol from it's harness. Bethany felt like a bundle of nerves but she wasn't nervous, she was excited. One more step, and there they were. A group of uniformed people standing about large crates of cargo, cargo that she and her team were in desperate need of.
Raising her pistol, she takes aim and fires- at the same moment the rest of her team had attacked as well, brightly colored beams of light surround her, the sing of phasers as they whirr past her ears and meet their targets ahead. They were stumbling now, faltering for their own weapons as Bethany's team pushes forward, closing out the distance between them.
A sudden movement to the right catches her eye, and she tries desperately to whirl about and re-aim but it was too late. One of the Federation members had crested the nearby hill and managed to take her out with a sniper rifle. Her small body collapses to the ground, and she watches the rest of her team pushing ahead. Thrusting her fist down against the top of her desk, she growls into the little microphone dangling near her lips.
" Clete, get your scrawny ass back here and heal me damn it. If I have to re-start this quest again, I will hunt you down- and I will beat you with a stick. "
It wasn't until she spoke, that Bethany remembered where she was. Clearing her throat, she glances about the Library to make sure she hadn't disturbed anyone. There still wasn't anyone sitting at any of the tables around her, and the Librarian was still working away at her little desk up front. Releasing a sigh of relief, she pushes the glasses back up onto the bridge of her nose, and turns her attention back to the game just as one of her team mates heals her and brings her back into play.
So her little character goes running to catch up with the rest of the team. Just another happy day in the world of ' Star Trek Online '. It may have seemed crazy for her to be playing that game, and there in such a public place. But over the past few years she had noticed that most of the ones who would turn on her for this passion didn't even realize where the campus library was and it was late so she should be safe.
