Eli nodded slowly at her confession, biting his lip. A girl playing football – that was something he didn’t hear every day. It made sense why he didn’t already know who she was, though – he had no interest in football. The kicker could have been an albino monkey, and he would have never known. If Eli went to a football game, it was either because he was bored out of his skull or he was supporting Isabella. “Well, I think the team is safe as long as they have you,” he replied, rubbing his shin, where the pain had reduced to a dull throbbing. Curse his bony legs.
He pulled her to her feet, hoping he hadn’t used too much force. He had figured she wouldn’t be heavy, but he wasn’t expecting her to be just that light. The girl was tiny, and quite frankly, he wasn’t sure where she contained all of that personality. “Believe me, I’m not about to go around telling everyone that the entire basketball team was taken down by a girl. Or that I hit a girl, for that matter.” He smiled, back at her, glad that the tension had dissolved some.
He had to admit that he was impressed by her offering of the spit-shake and unashamedly returned it. “Okay, now, the real problem is how in the world are we going to get you out of here?” Eli looked around the room, but he didn’t see any alternative exits to the main door. The windows were high even for him, and he didn’t want to think about the drop she’d have to the pavement on the other side.
